The rear skid plate is similar to the front in construction. The roof rack on the TTSE includes sliding roof rails, with simple twist dials for the right cargo slide.

Oh yes, there are badges to announce your muddy arrival, which even make their way onto the very-serious floor mats. To attempt to build either the C Package or the Off Road into a TTSE would be a stretch, if not downright impossible, as the only options available on either model fall under dealer-installed accessories.

The skid plate array appears to be a TTSE exclusive. There are no official provisions for tire and wheel changes. Try to get them thrown in, and a credit on the Rock Rails difference. Think of them as Rock Rails Lite, with grip-style foot pads for ease of entry. The livery Avalon marks Toyota's first time getting into that business in the US, a natural step after having done so well with taxi clients and with the Town Car out of the way.

Still, the livery client is a different to taxi buyers, so the Avalon could face other soft-touch hurdles. Not all so-called Memorandum of Understanding pacts end in actual collaborations. For instance, after a two-year "feasibility study," Toyota and Ford have just announced that they will not be developing hybrid systems for use in light trucks and SUVs as previously planned, and the two automakers will instead continue to develop their own hybrid technology independently.

The would-be collaboration was first announced in August of , and would have seen a rear-wheel-drive hybrid platform that would "improve the efficiency of trucks and SUVs while still allowing them to be driven in the way customers expect," according to our initial post on the topic. Keep in mind that this announcement isn't to say we shouldn't expect hybrid pickups and SUVs from the two automakers, but that they probably aren't coming very soon - Ford says it will have a system "before the end of this decade" and we haven't heard much from Toyota on the hybrid truck front since the A-BAT Concept pictured above - and that they will not share any components between them and they never have, for what it's worth.
